How to Make Your Mugs Last Longer (Yes, Even in the Dishwasher!)

 

Here at Mugalicious, I know how easy it is to fall head-over-heels for the perfect mug. Whether it’s your go-to morning coffee mug or your fave seasonal sipper, I want your mugs to last as long as your love for them!

All of my mugs are made with care and meant to be hand-washed only, especially as they are made using vinyl but what if I told you there’s a little magic trick you can do at home to make them last even longer—and yes, even survive the dreaded dishwasher?

Let’s talk Mod Podge Dishwasher Safe Gloss 🫧✨

🛠️ What You’ll Need:

Your beautiful Mugalicious mug (obviously 😍).

Mod Podge Dishwasher Safe Gloss (available at most craft stores or online).

A soft brush or sponge applicator.

A clean, dry space to let your mug dry and cure

 

🖌️ How to Use It:

1. Clean your mug – Make sure it's totally clean and dry before you begin. No fingerprints, oils, or dust.

2. Apply a thin layer of Mod Podge – Use your brush to gently coat the decorated area of your mug. Make sure to go just beyond the edges of the design to seal it fully.

 

3. Let it dry – Wait at least 1–2 hours before applying the next coat. You’ll want 2–3 thin coats in total.

 

4. Curing is key –This is the reason I can't do this myself for everh mug. Once your last coat is on, let your mug cure for 28 days. I know—it’s a bit of a wait, but trust me, it’s worth it for dishwasher-safe magic! 💫

 

💡 A Little Note on Texture:

Once sealed, the outside of your mug may have a slightly different feel—a bit more textured than the original glossy finish. That’s totally normal and part of the Mod Podge magic! It won't affect the look, and once fully cured, it's durable and ready to handle all the cosy coffess you throw at it ☕💕.

☕️ A Few Extra Tips:

Only seal the design area of the mug—not where your lips will touch or the inside where your drinks go.

Even once cured, I still like to place my mugs on the top rack of the dishwasher to be extra gentle.

If you’re in a hurry, stick to hand washing. It's always the safest bet!
